ControversiesEdit

TAKE PRECAUTION WHEN READING THIS SECTION OF THE PAGE. VARIOUS TOPICS MENTIONED HERE MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN OR THOSE WHO MAY BE EMOTIONALLY TRIGGERED BY CERTAIN THEMES AND ISSUES.

Many of the early episodes hold a number of common TV tropes. As a result, the traditional setup of the cartoon series has led to many concerns among viewers. Some topics include:

  • Cultural appropriation
  • Sexism
  • Satanism
  • Suicide
  • Racism
  • Burning alive and genocide
  • Cannibalism

Banzai's character is seen as a stereotype of a Japanese samurai, from the attire to the personality. Many consider this cultural appropriation. Lots of other stereotypes are visible in the characters.

In episode 7 of the cartoon series, Fatale is shown as an alluring character who distracts mice with it's tail in order to obtain the cheese. This trope is very common among classical television shows. In episode 9, Fatale is also seen as a cheerleader, giving viewers the sense that this is what a typical 'girly' character would find as a hobby. However, as of Episode 25, it was discovered that part of Fatale's charm comes from their cosmetics. This is most noticeable in the scene where Fatale throws down their exotic flower earpiece and necklace out of frustration.

In episodes 10, 11, 20, and 35, Red is seen performing what seems to be a satanic ritual, utilizing the pentagram (inverted pentagon). Cross River was not familiar with how shamans work in the game and resorted to common shaman rituals from pre-modern history.

Episode 12 of the cartoon series proved to be the most controversial among players and viewers. This episode features Brutus committing suicide many times in order to go to a mouse heaven abundant with cheese. Their attempts ultimately fail and Brutus is revived by Blue. The episode featured no trigger warnings or 'viewer discretion is advised' in the beginning of the video.

In episode 13 of the series, a white mouse is not permitted to enter the microwave club. Because the rest of the mice are brown, almost every viewer saw this as a form of racism. Melibellule, an administrator, mentioned that this was not intentional but rather the white mouse was a modeling shortcut (the mouse was used in episode 9) and easily distinguishable among other mice. Since the series is void of dialogue, the message had to be conveyed in a very clear fashion.

The same episode also holds a very morbid attribute. The series as a whole does feature various deaths, but many are seen as simply comical. The ones featured in episode 13 stood out quite distinctly. Presumably by accident or possibly on purpose, Brutus burns every mouse inside the microwave club. This circumstance echoes the operations performed during World War 2.

In episode 35 a mouse is transformed into cheese, which the other mice then try to eat, which can be construed as an attempt at cannibalism.

TriviaEdit

  • A Transformice series of some sort had been considered for some time, with a possible anime adaption being considered at one point[1]
  • In episode 4 of the series, the frame settings were accidentally inserted at around the 1 minute and 18 second mark. This was fixed in the Christmas edition.
  • The series has a very volatile FPS throughout each episode, where some scenes are very choppy while some are smooth.
  • Most anonymous mice have green to lime eyes with the exception of the vampire mice, which is red.
  • Starting episode 24, episode titles were added.
  • Episode 25 and Episode 39 were the only episodes that shows certain characters getting cheese so far, unless Episode 25 was indeed all a literal dream of Fatale.
  • The title and the music in episode 26 is a reference to Michael Jackson's song titled "Beat It".
  • A Cross River member has comfirmed that the main characters and the other mice's gender is a secret.[2]
