Presents

The present counter next to the emotion buttons.

A present appears in maps during Christmas events. At least 4 mice must be in the room for presents to appear. Collecting the present on a map and bringing it (along with the cheese) back to the hole gives the player a red present Consumable #2210 in their inventory. Presents are located randomly in user-made maps and in fixed locations in vanilla maps.

Presents were first introduced to most vanilla maps on 10 December 2010 (V0.124) for the Christmas 2010 event and removed from the game when the event ended on 2 January 2011 (V0.129).

Mice collect presents by touching them before going into the hole with cheese. Upon touching a present, it will become translucent on the map and your mouse will carry a present on its back. After reaching the hole, you will receive one red present in your inventory. Presents may be opened to receive consumables like snowballs and temporary skins, or traded with other players, causing them to become green presents in your inventory.

Red and green presents give different consumables and relics, hence trading is an important aspect of Christmas events.

Finding presents[]

Presents can be found in most vanilla and normal maps, except cheese thief maps and transformation maps. Presents can only be collected when there are four or more mice in the room.

Presents are almost always located in places that require efforts to get them, on the part of either the mice or the shaman. In shaman maps, the shaman might have to go all the way out of his/her way to get the present, often leaving little time to spare. In primarily racing maps, such as maps 25 or 35, the presents are placed in areas that are designed to make getting first and collecting the present mutually exclusive, that is, anyone must go out of their way enough that they lose any lead they had.

Crane BugWhen a mouse dies after touching the present and is revived with the "Ambulance" shaman skill, the mouse will not be shown carrying the present.

Christmas 2010[]

The number of presents collected by mice is always visible on screen, found next to the emotion buttons. When the player touches the present on the map, the display changes from 'X' to 'X+1' where X is the number of presents the player currently has. If the player makes it to the hole successfully, the number will increment at the start of the next round.

Presents are used on map 888 where presents can be given to any mouse except Jingle. Upon receiving a present, you will receive a special non-purchasable Christmas shop item worth the amount of presents received.

Note: For the first few days, it was possible to give and unwrap gifts on maps other than Map 888

  • 1–9 Ornament Earing
  • 10–19 Beard
  • 20–29 Snowman Head
  • 30–39 Antlers

When you open 40+ presents you always will be gifted with cheese in the shop.

You can get titles for giving presents to other mice. They are:

  • 1+ Little Snowflake
  • 10+ Christmas Spirit
  • 30+ Little Pixie
  • 40+ Santa Claus

If a mouse receives an amount of presents that would gift them an item they already have, they will receive a shop item for free, or an amount of cheese equal to the unwrap level doubled. In this way, it is possible to gain extremely expensive items such as the Pharaoh's Headpiece, the Chinese Queue or items not normally available such as the Halloween items. However, items over 1,000 cheese are either incredibly rare or impossible to obtain.

Christmas 2014 and after[]

After the inventory system was introduced, presents became an inventory item. The counter was removed as the number of presents can be seen in the inventory. Presents may be opened at any time.

Different colors of presents were introduced in Christmas 2014. Mice obtained colored presents when they traded presents with each other. Christmas 2014 also introduced the relic system. Players collect relic fragments by opening presents, and use the fragments to form relics and gain rewards. Starting Christmas 2016, each relic fragment can only be found in one type of present, encouraging mice to exchange red presents to obtain green presents.

Detailed guides in the wiki showing what present to open to get each relic fragment can be found in the event pages.
